"Dangerous Liaisons" is the fifth episode in the second season of A Girl Named Jo, and the thirteenth episode overall. It aired on February 5, 2019.
Synopsis[]
Rising tensions boil over into a shocking fight at Attaway High.
Plot[]
The Fitzroy's are having a nice family dinner. Virginia mentions that they haven't seen Junior lately and wonders if him and Cathy are still together. Cathy questions why she cares and assumes it has something to do with her and Dwight hanging out recently. Virginia then tells her that they don't want her to get stuck in the wrong crowd. Cathy asks Henry why he left Finley Academy so quickly, he responds by saying he was eager to start a career in business early as she will learn one day. Then she accuses him of doing business with the DuPonts and that she saw him speaking with Chuck DuPont in his office. He tries to explain himself by saying the bank told him that the Fitzroy's needed a signed approval from the DuPonts. Russell is upset and feels ashamed that Henry didn't consult him before going to the DuPonts. So he tries to call Chuck and Henry tells him it's pointless because he's on a business trip. Russell feeling betrayed says he should never have trusted him in the first place and Henry through angry questions him if he will ever forgive him for what he did seven years ago and leaves the room. Cathy asks what Henry was talking about, then Russell says that it isn't important.
Meanwhile, the Chambers are having dinner. Junior says to Thomas that him and Jo are miffed about him selling the diner. Thomas says to him that it's hard for him to keep the diner considering Bobby left town again and that him and Jo are busy with school. Debbie suggests he sells the diner to someone else instead of Ernie Sutherland saying that he is a bad person and is racist, Jo agrees with her. Debbie asks Jo her favourite novels to read, she responds by saying "Dangerous Liaisons", Lady Macbeth" and "Lady Susan". Debbie calls her clever for mentioning titles with strong female villains, Thomas gets offended of Jo by this and scolds her. Debbie starts to feel something weird in her stomach and leaves the room, then Thomas tells Jo to apologize to her.
The next day at school, Cathy has a vision of a cabinet and a child yelling her name. Then Junior approaches her who asks her out to a movie, she declines saying she hasn't been feeling good lately and will hangout soon.
In Chemistry class, the students are watching a history film. Alice notices that Allen is zoned out and asks how he's holding up. He says that he gave the hospital the last of the money he saved up so their kicking Lenny out next week and that it will he hard having him back around. Then Alice rests her hand on his arm and tells him that she is always there for him, Jo notices this and gets depressed. Abby gives her advice telling her not to get hung up on her first crush. She then mentions to her one day she will move to New York and become a singer and offers to be her roommate to cheer her up. Lawrence is then called down to the principal's office immediately. After class Cathy asks Dwight out to get ice cream to make up for the other night but he declines her offer feeling it doesn't seem right for them to hang out.
Lawrence is in the principal's office and is greeted by Henry Fitzroy who offers him an opportunity to be taken under his wing in favour of his father Chuck DuPont. Lawrence tries to gloat about being his father's vice president but Henry says he knows that all he does is pick out bed sheets. Lawrence gets very annoyed and believes that he's being played and that he will tell his father about it. Henry accepts his decision and gives him his number in case he may need it.
Jo is telling Cathy about Thomas' weird relationship with Debbie, and then tells her that Junior has been moping. Cathy tells her that her heart isn't into him at the moment and might be somewhere else. She then asks about Allen and Jo says that its hard seeing him with Alice. Then Lawrence approaches Cathy in absolute anger saying that her brother is meddling in his family's business. Cathy says she has nothing to do with it but he doesn't believe her and yells at her to tell the truth. Then Dwight steps in and pushes him away from her, Lawrence attempts to fight him slapping him to the floor. They break out into a brawl, Lawrence has Dwight on the floor and punches him in the face three times then kicks him in the ribs and the face. Then Junior steps in, tackles Lawrence and punches him in the face. Mr. Richards pulls Junior aside and Debbie comes out of her office and breaks up the fight, then sees Dwight on the floor unconscious. Cathy begs for someone to call an ambulance and Mr. Richards tells everyone to get to class and that the police will be on their way.
Allen and Alice are at the hospital with Lenny. He tells him that they will be letting him out next week, then Lenny promises when he gets out will stop drinking once and for all. Allen hopes he will keep the promise, Alice says it was a pleasure to meet him and then they leave.
Lawrence is in the principal office again with Debbie who just gets off the phone with the police. She tells him that Dwight is seriously injured and that his chances of living are 50%, then he informs him that he will be brought in by the cops for questioning. He asks if she was able to reach his father so they can sort this out, she says that she hasn't saying that they are all the way in the Adirondacks. Lawrence scared and unsure of what he should do is given advice by Debbie to leave town and to not come back until the incident is all cleared up. Lawrence not knowing what to do or where to go remembers the contact card containing the number that Henry gave him and decides to call him for help.
Dwight is in the hospital with his sister Abby trying to get better. Meanwhile, Jo and Junior are hanging out at the diner one last time. Thomas and Debbie tell them that they decided to stay together and reveal that Debbie is pregnant.
At the Fitzroy's Henry gets a call from Lawrence urgently asking for his help.
