"Monday" is the first episode in the first season of Chicken Girls, and the first episode overall. It aired on September 5, 2017.

Synopsis[]

Rhyme and her friends have always danced together. But this year there's a new girl in town, and only three spots on the team.

Plot[]

This episode takes place in September 2017, when the main characters are in 8th grade, making them apart of the class of 2022. Rhyme and TK are seen walking to school, where she expresses her desire to be on the middle school dance team, and he wants to be on the swim team. He takes a picture of her, and she starts arguing that she's always with her best friends on the first day. TK complains that the name "Chicken Girls" sounds too immature.

Quinn and Ellie are revealed, and Quinn says that she made up with her sister. The two girls hadn't gotten along since she dated a guy named Henry, but they broke up. It's revealed that she's now interested in photography. When Quinn goes to show Ellie a picture, Ellie asks her when she got her phone and worries that she's the only one in the group who doesn't have one. Quinn isn't quite sure if all of them do, and she checks the group chat, which Ellie didn't know was there. Ellie then calls for Kayla, who she met at dance camp, and goes over to introduce her to Quinn, saying "she'll love her."

Ellie and Kayla hug a little, and then Kayla officially meets Quinn, who reveals that there are three spots on the dance team and she insists that they're for Rhyme, her, and Ellie. Kayla heard about a dance she did when she was five (with a doubtful look on her face) and that's how she knows about the Chicken Girls. She was also reminded of the CG friendship bracelets. Ellie, being optimistic, opens the other girls up to the idea that there could possibly be another spot on the team. Quinn points Rooney and Birdie out to her friends, claiming that Birdie's the dance team captain and Rooney's best friend. Quinn thinks she's the downright coolest girl in town. She decides to leave, but Ellie wants her to wait for Rhyme, who Quinn thinks is "the one who's late." Kayla finds it rude. The boys' soccer team walks up, making Ellie very excited. She says the tall one is, in fact, Rooney's ex-boyfriend. Kayla reveals that he's also her mom's friend's son. He says "bye" to his soccer friends and walks over to the girls. Kayla immediately acts like she doesn't want him around, but then Ellie introduces herself as Kayla's friend and is not sure how to act in front of him. Kayla rolls her eyes at Ellie. When Henry begs Kayla to add her on Snapchat, Kayla refuses, but Ellie grabs Kayla's phone and gives him her Snapchat. After he walks away, she straightforwardly says how amazing that conversation was. Kayla complains that his mom does his eyebrows and that he looks like a ketchup packet, calling Ellie "weird." Ellie is more than okey with both of those things.

Birdie and Rooney are sitting next to each other in the hallway. Rooney mentions that she's okey after Henry and her broke up, and that Quinn has been supportive. Birdie asks why Quinn is around all the time, which upsets her. Birdie gets moody and rushes to homeroom.

Rhyme and TK are seen walking, and TK asks her what she's listening to, and she says it's a song they used to listen to. She says this year will be the best year ever, until she looks up and sees that her friends went to class without her.

Rhyme is glad that her, Quinn, and Ellie have English class together. She also says that she couldn't come sooner because TK was too slow. Quinn comments that it's because she prefers having a boyfriend instead of best friends, and Rhyme says that they are strictly just friends. Ellie suggests that TK could be set up with Kayla, who Rhyme hasn't heard of. Quinn explains how Kayla and Ellie met at dance camp and how Ellie thinks she's so cool. Rhyme is worried that she won't get to tryout, and then Quinn and Ellie tell her that there are only three spots on the dance team.
