"World's Fair" is the second episode in the third season of A Girl Named Jo, and the seventeenth episode overall. It aired on June 25, 2019.
Synopsis[]
Abby & Jo explore NYC's World's Fair and meet some new faces. But, Abby quickly learns that behind the fun and smiles at the fair -- lies a tragic truth.
Plot[]
Loretta takes Jo and Abby to the World’s Fair. The make their way to the hot dog stand where they meet Harold to happens to be a childhood friend of Abby's. Loretta tells him that she’s hoping to get Abby a job at the Fair for the summer, he says he will talk to his manager and even offers to teach her how to work at the stand.
At the Crown Lake Country Club, Junior and Dwight are working their shifts. Dwight’s runs into Cathy who asks to hang out after his shift, he says that he can’t having to work longer being really busy.
Jo and Abby are telling Harold their experience at the fair so far. Jo says she wants to go check out the Underground House, but Abby says she has to wait for the personnel lady to interview her for the job. Then Jo mentions that her father used to run a diner and says that she had some experience with food, volunteering to work at the stand as well. Harold tells that it might not be a good idea for her and that she won’t be able to get a job at the fair outside, then he suggests her getting a job at the fair where she can work inside saying she will have better luck. Jo then leaves the stand and heads to the Underground House.
Jo arrives at the Underground House where she meets a young man named Felix who greets her as the both express their knowledge of the house and their references to it. Felix is impressed with her knowledge. Meanwhile, at the hot dog stand, Abby is serving hot dogs with Harold. It gets hotter outside making Abby wish she work inside instead, but Harold tells her that black people don’t work inside and those jobs are only for white people.
Back at Crown Lake, Junior and Dwight are cleaning up the dining hall. Junior finds a 10 dollar bill on the ground, then he goes over to Dwight to see what he’s doing. Dwight is cleaning pictures frames of old portraits from the 1940s, he tells them that one of them is president Theodore Hurley which sound very familiar to Junior, he tries to figure out who it could possibly be.
Jo is still checking out the artifacts while Felix is giving the tour of the Underground House. Afterwards, Jo compliments him on his knowledge, which he does the same to her. He tells her he assumes it’s her first time at the World's Fair because he had the same look she has when he first came. Then they introduce themselves and Felix continues the tour.
Back at Loretta's apartment, Jo looks look at the letter from her Uncle Bobby. Abby is concerned if she really wants to iron the letter, Jo tells her she does and must see what’s inside. She opens the letter and finds pictures of her and Junior and wonders why her uncle would sent them to someone in New York.
